'He owes us nothing at this stage' Horse bought for £1,000 by friends wins again!

There was immense excitement for the Oakleaf Lads Syndicate in Derry as their horse picked up for the group of racing enthusiasts taking first place at the Clonmel races on Thursday February 13, 2025.

Apologise was bought for just £1,000 at the recent Doncaster Sales by Derry horse trainer Gary McGill and his son and jockey Dara McGill. The six-year-old was then picked up for a group of friends and racing enthusiasts who all know each other from their local bar in Barr.

Speaking after Apologise's second win, Dara said: "Me and my father went over to Doncaster and we picked up him out and he had his problems when we got him and to be honest, the last day we went to Limerick now, we were hopeful. If he keeps going the right way he'll be alright."

Dara continued: "It's brilliant for the lads in the bar in town back at home and to get all of the boys up here, fourteen or fifteen of them, it's brilliant, he's given them two brilliant days out and he owes us nothing at this stage."
