Fionn McLaughlin after a successful weekend in Aragon

County Derry’s Fionn McLaughlin starred in the penultimate race weekend in the Formula Winter Series.

The Red Bull Junior driver has been competitive throughout his first season, but he shone brightly last weekend in the usually sunny region of Aragon in Spain.

However, the Magherafelt teenager had to deal with slippery conditions to win his second weekend in the FW series.

McLaughlin claimed third place in his first race of the weekend on Saturday, a solid start according to the 17-year-old.

Things would get better, as McLaughlin would claim back-to-back victories around Motorland Aragon on Sunday.

As he stood aloft the podium in Spain, the Magherafelt man produced a masterclass in wet conditions in the third race to claim the win after a fantastic performance in the second with the same result.

McLaughlin can look forward to the final race of the series in Barcelona, with the County Derry man in the hunt to win the entire series as he currently sits second overall before travelling to the Catalan capital and the Irishman is determined to add to his successful weekend.

He said: “What an incredible weekend!

“I’m just so grateful to secure 3 podiums and 2 wins. None of this would have been possible without the amazing team. Let’s keep pushing, and success will follow us to Barcelona!”
