Riada Resourcing is set to take over the Limavady charity shop for a day.
Riada Resourcing are embracing the Cancer Focus NI Charity Shops Challenge 2025 in the Limavady shop on Thursday May 23, gathering their team together to raise essential funds for the worthy charity.
The Charity Shops Challenge is a unique and competitive fundraising initiative led by Cancer Focus Northern Ireland in partnership with Business in the Community Northern Ireland.
Businesses across Northern Ireland take over a Cancer Focus NI charity shop for a day to raise as much money as possible through donations, sales and creative fundraising activities.
Arlene McConaghie, Riada Resourcing Managing Director explained why the Cancer Focus NI Charity Shop Challenge is a perfect fit for Riada’s charity focus in 2025:
“Riada are a people-led, community-focused organisation, and supporting meaningful causes is at the heart of what we do.
“Cancer Focus NI is a charity close to many of our team, and we’re extremely proud to make it one of our chosen charities for 2025.
“This challenge is the perfect way to come together, get creative and make a real difference.”
Since the Cancer Focus NI Charity Shops Challenge began in 2011, the fundraising initiative has raised over £450,000 and hopes are high for donation totals again this year.
The Charity Shop Challenge involves 13 businesses competing to raise the most money, with the winning team crowned Challenge Champion.
Teams fundraise in the lead-up to their takeover day, boosting donations before they even step foot in the shop.
All money raised supports Cancer Focus NI’s life-changing services, including counselling, family support and art therapy, ensuring continued support to those who need them most.
Roisin Forsythe, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Cancer Focus NI welcomed the involvement of Riada Resourcing and other businesses in the Charity Shops Challenge:
“With one in two people in Northern Ireland predicted to be affected by cancer in our lifetime, the Charity Shops Challenge provides a unique opportunity for Cancer Focus NI to promote cancer awareness all whilst raising much needed funds for our cancer support services.
“Across Northern Ireland, our charity provides counselling, family support, bra and swimsuit fitting and support groups to thousands of people and families each year.
“It is only thanks to businesses who take part in our events, that we can continue to be there for people on their cancer journey.
“By participating in this wonderful corporate team building challenge, 13 businesses will come together to host events, create fundraisers and find unique ways to promote their work in the lead up to the challenge day.
“We encourage people to visit their local Cancer Focus NI shop on 23 May to get behind the initiative, pick up a bargain and have some fun along the way all while supporting a worthy cause.”
Cancer Focus Northern Ireland provides critical services for cancer patients and their families, including counselling, support groups, health promotion and pioneering research.
Lauren Cunningham, Community Engagement Manager at Business in the Community, said:
“Since 2010, our annual charity shop take-over days have raised more than £590,000 for charities by using the expertise, good will and business acumen of the organisations that are part of our responsible business network.
“We are delighted to be running this challenge again in partnership with Cancer Focus NI.
“This employer-supported challenge offers multiple benefits – enabling employees to take on and project manage the challenge, use their skills and wits to fundraise, get creative in managing and promoting ‘their’ shop, and raising awareness of Cancer Focus NI’s invaluable services throughout Northern Ireland."
Riada Resourcing are appealing to local businesses, their clients and the community to help to raise as much funds as possible for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.
They are asking for donations towards or sponsorship of the event and are hoping the Limavady community will support them by calling into the shop on the day to spend and cheer on their efforts.
