North West Road Safety Partnership stakeholders
The North West Road Safety Partnership (NWRSP) set about improving road safety in the Fountain area of Derry.
Last week the charity, partnered with a number of key stakeholders, patrolled the Fountain area to address the concerns in this part of the city.
Key issues such as illegal parking, the need for double yellow line repainting, and safer road junctions have been identified, and actions will be worked on to enhance safety for all road users.
Speaking about the event, the charity said: “This is a great step forward for the Fountain Estate, and we appreciate the collaboration and commitment from everyone involved in making our roads safer for all road users and residents!
“A special thank you to New Gate Arts and Cultural Centre, Fountain Primary School, McGarrigle Signs, and the Cathedral Youth Club for their support and participation.”
In attendance of the event were DFI Road Engineering & DFI Traffic Management, PSNI Traffic Branch & Neighbourhood Team, City Centre Initiative Representative Garvin Kerr, Life After Chairperson Bobby Bradley, Residents Ann Sherrard and Joan Robb, NWRSP Committee Member Stefanie Burn and Secretary Christopher Sherrard, Ken Donaghey from New Gate Arts and Cultural Centre, MLA Gary Middleton, Alderman Janice Montgomery, and Councillor John Boyle.
MLA Middleston said: “I attended a site meeting on Friday with the North West Road Safety Partnership to seek to address the ongoing road safety issues in the Fountain Estate and Carlisle Road/Horace Street.
“It was positive to see the Department for Infrastructure, PSNI, and City Centre Initiative working together in partnership to bring solutions.
“A number of measures have been agreed upon, which we hope to see in place in the near future.”
