Derry man in possession of imitation firearm returned for trial

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a charge of possessing an imitation firearm. 

Ruarai Canning (33) of Maureen Avenue in Derry appeared at a Preliminary Enquiry at the local Magistrate's Court

He was charged with possessing an imitation firearm on March 31 last year.

He was further charged with driving while disqualified and obstructing police on the same date. 

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.

Canning said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. 

He was returned for trial to the Crown on a date to be fixed and released on continuing bail.
