County Derry country singer says ‘watch this space’ following Glór Tíre Grand Final

John Mullan says he has enjoyed his experience and the exposure it has given him.

He may not have won the Glór Tíre Grand Final, but Co Derry country singer John Mullan still ended the night feeling like a winner.

The 21-year-old from Ballinderry performed at last night’s (Tuesday, April 15) Glór Tíre Grand Final, which was broadcast live on Irish language station TG4.

He performed two songs - ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ by Luke Combs and ‘The Way I Walk’ by Morgan Wallen.

Combs and Wallen are John’s chief musical influences and inspirations, and both songs showcased John’s superb voice, with its natural country register and emotional edge.

The coveted title of Ireland’s Glór Tíre Country Music Champion 2025 went to Fermanagh’s Paddy Treacy, and John had high praise for the winner.

Paddy's a top man,” he said.

He was unbelievable throughout the series, so it's a well deserved win for him.”

Glór Tíre, now in its 21st season, is one of the most popular TV shows across the island of Ireland, with a dedicated following on both sides of the border. Many former contestants, such as Rachel McConnell, Jim Devine, Lisa McHugh, and Effie Neill have all gone on to enjoy great careers.

With the exposure John has received on the show, many people across Ireland are now aware of what a talent he is.

Singing on national television is not an easy thing to be doing,” says John, “but for me, being able to be confident, getting up on stage, and singing in front of national television, I know I didn't win on the night, but I feel like I've won it overall.”

Now Glór Tíre season 21 is over, what is next for John Mullan?

It's only the beginning, it's not the end,” he declares.

There's a few things lined up, but I can't say anything about that yet, but watch this space. Keep an eye out for me.”
