Tributes paid to former Dungiven GAA player and coach following 'tragic and untimely passing'

Tributes have been paid to a former GAA player and coach from County Derry who died suddenly.

Daniel Mullan, from Dungiven, passed away yesterday, Thursday, April 17.

A death notice states that Daniel was the ‘much loved partner of Amber, loving father of Jasper, cherished son of Rosaleen and the late Patrick Mullan'.

He was also the ‘dearly loved brother of Ciaran, Patricia, Geraldine, Sean, Conor, Cahir, Brian, Martin, Brendan and Leanne’.

The popular dad-of-one, who lived in Derry, has been described by his former club as ‘a true Dungiven Gael’.

“The Committee, Players and Members of St Canice's GAC Dungiven are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic and untimely passing of Daniel,” read a statement from the club.

Daniel was a former player and coach with St Canice’s and represented the club with great pride throughout his underage and senior playing career and was a dedicated coach. He was a passionate supporter after his playing days, loved everything about his club and was a true Dungiven Gael. He was a much-loved brother of former players Ciaran, Sean, Conor, Cahir, Brian, and Brendan and uncle to a large number of nephews and nieces who currently play or have played for the club.

“Our sincere condolences go out to Daniel’s partner Amber and son Jasper, his Mum Rosaleen and siblings Ciaran, Patricia, Geraldine, Sean, Conor, Cahir, Brian, Martin, Brendan and Leanne. We extend our extreme sympathy to the entire Mullan family circle at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

Kevin Lynch hurling club also paid tribute saying: “Kevin Lynch hurling club are saddened to learn of the passing of former underage player Daniel Mullan. The Mullan family have a long association with the hurling club & our thoughts & prayers go out to his partner Amber, son Jasper, mother Rosaleen and siblings Ciaran, Patricia, Geraldine, Sean, Conor, Cahir, Brian, Martin, Brendan and Leanne and the extended Mullan family.”

Mr Mullan’s wake will commence at his family home in Dungiven tomorrow (Saturday) at 12noon.

His funeral will take place in St Patrick’s Church, Dungiven on Monday at 11am.
