Limavady school to open its doors today to offer support following death of one of its pupils

Jessica Glasser passed away on Saturday.

A County Derry school has paid tribute to one of its pupils who sadly passed away over the weekend.

Jessica Glasser, a year 14 pupil at Limavady High School, died on Saturday, May 3.

In an online tribute, the school principal Darren Mornin said it was 'with a heavy heart that we must share the tragic news of the passing of one of our pupils'.

Mr Mornin described the Limavady girl as 'a caring and friendly character who will be dearly missed by her classmates and the wider LHS community'.

"The entire Limavady High School community is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our Year 14 pupil Jessica. At this difficult time, we keep in our thoughts and prayers Jessica’s parents, David and Mary, her brother Aaron and her whole family circle. May they gather strength in their collective memories of Jessica as they prepare for the tough days, weeks and months ahead,” he said.

The principal said that the school will open its doors today (Monday) to assist in supporting pupils and staff through this time of grief.

The school will open on Monday from 10am to 2pm for those who want to come in, speak to friends and members of the Senior Leadership Team. Trained staff from the Education Authority Critical Incident Response Team will also be present in school on Tuesday to provide support, alongside the school's pastoral team.”

He added that a letter has been sent by the school to parents, informing them of this sad news and providing information on the support services available.

“Jessica will be fondly remembered by everyone associated with the school,” Mr Mornin added.

Jessica's funeral service will be held in her home tomorrow (Tuesday, May 6) followed by burial in Christ Church, Limavady at 1pm.

A death notice stated that she will be 'lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all her family and friends'.
