Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today that CCTV operators observed a man 'instigating' a fight in Waterloo Place.

Cavan White (34) of Rossnagalliagh in Derry admitted a charge of disorderly behavior on April 22 2023.

The court was told that police were alerted by CCTV operators to an ongoing fight between the defendant and another male.

Police separated them and neither man wished to make a complaint.

The defendant became abusive towards police and members of the public and continued to shout obscenities.

An examination of CCTV revealed White had started the fight and was being aggressive towards members of the public.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client was currently in custody and due for release at the end of this month.

He asked the court not to interfere with that release date.

White was jailed for one month.
