London debut for Niall McCarthy's 'Derry Boys'
The debut play 'Derry Boys' from emerging Irish writer Niall McCarthy, born from Theatre503’s Rapid Write Response programme, will begin performances in London next week.
An award nominated writer, Niall, from the Waterside area of the city, currently resides in London.

Whilst Derry Boys will be his full length debut, the former Lumen Christi College pupil has had short plays performed across the UK, with his short play ‘Die Trying’ being nominated for the Kenneth Branagh award 2024. His next play ‘Forbidden Fruit’ will be performed at the Cheltenham Playhouse in June 2025.
In 2021 Niall was inducted onto the ‘Live Theatre Newcastle New Playwrights course’ and in 2023 he attended the ‘INK Festival Script Writing Course’.
The play, directed by Andy McLeod, explores themes of identity, ambition, and the challenges of navigating a complex world. It follows the lives of Paddy and Mick, both born and raised in Derry, who are separated as children and later reunite as adults in London, revealing how their lives have diverged over time.
