TG4’s captivating GAA documentary series Scéalta na gCorn concludes tonight with the final episode focusing on Derry.
Produced by Imagine Media with support from NI Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, the six-part series airs on TG4 on Thursday at 8.00pm.
Presented by Gráinne McElwain, Scéalta na gCorn (Silverware Stories) brings viewers on a journey across the country to uncover the remarkable stories behind some of the most treasured trophies in Gaelic games. From cups named after historic Irish patriots to more recent legends of the GAA, each episode offers a unique insight into the people and communities who have shaped the games we love.
In Series 3, Gráinne meets the families, friends, and club members who keep these stories alive. She explores the legacy of the names behind the silverware – and the deep pride felt by those who play for them.
The final episode takes Gráinne to Derry, where she visits the club and trophy named in honour of Brian Óg McKeever, a young player whose legacy lives on.
Each year, Steelstown Brian Óg’s GAC proudly hosts the Brian Óg 9s, a special schools’ competition held in honour of the gifted footballer and former St. Columb's College student.
In April 2008, at just 17 years old, Brian Óg was diagnosed with leukaemia. Despite a brave and dignified battle, he tragically passed away on November 8 2008. His courage, spirit, and love of Gaelic football left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
The tournament was first proposed by Mr McLaughlin, who had the privilege of teaching and coaching Brian, and with the support of the McKeever family and Steelstown Brian Óg’s, the event has grown into a much-loved annual tradition.
Each year, hundreds of Year 10 pupils from schools across the region come together to compete in a celebration of football, friendship, and the enduring legacy of Brian Óg.
