62-year-old man charged with sexually abusing three girls over a nine year period to face trial

The defendant is charged with three counts of rape and with twenty-seven counts of indecent assault

A sixty-two years old local man is go to on trial at the Crown Court in Derry charged with sexually abusing three girls over a nine year period, starting in May 1987.

The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with three counts of rape and with twenty-seven counts of indecent assault.

At his arraignment before Judge Neil Rafferty K.C. the defendant replied "not guilty" to each of the thirty charges.

A prosecution barrister said the trial was expected to last for two weeks.

The case was adjourned for a review on June 12 and the defendant was released on continuing bail.
