Suspended sentence for man who became disorderly and abusive to police

A man who became disorderly and abusive to police has received a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court.

William Temple (40) of Foyle Road in Derry admitted two offences that occurred on November 30 last year.

The court heard that police were attending an incident and Temple was present. He began shouting profanities and was abusive to police despite being warned.

When police arrested him he tensed his arms and resisted police.

Temple later accepted his behaviour was unacceptable and apologised.

Defence counsel Michael Donaghy said Temple had alcohol issues. He said the defendant had 73 previous convictions but had made admissions at the earliest opportunity.

Temple was given three months in prison suspended for 18 months.
