Recycling Centres across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area have transitioned to Winter Opening Hours from today (Monday, September 29 2025).
From today, most Recycling Centres will adopt revised hours - except Pennyburn, Strathfoyle, Strahan’s Road, and Spamount - which will continue to open on their normal hours.
Claudy, Donemana, Newtownstewart and Glendermott will continue to close on a Monday and Sunday. For the rest of the week they will open at 9:30am and close at 5pm, except a Saturday when they will close at 4:30pm.
Eglinton, Park and Plumbridge will also be open 9:30am until 5pm expect a Monday when they will open 10am until 5pm. They will close on a Saturday and Sunday.
Pennyburn, Strathfoyle and Strahan’s Road will continue to open 8am until 8pm Monday to Friday, and close at 6pm on a Saturday. They will open 1pm-5pm on a Sunday.
Spamount will open at 10am until 4:30pm apart from a Monday when they will not open until 10:30am. They will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Large vans are allowed into Claudy, Donemana, Plumbridge, Newtownstewart and Spamount in the first hour of the day, after that they must book online for either Pennyburn, Strabane or Strathfoyle.
Residents are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the opening times of their local Recycling Centre over the Winter months. These Winter hours will replace the extended Summer timetable currently in operation.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, urged residents to check updated times before visiting.
“We’re asking the public to take note of the updated Winter opening hours and plan their visits accordingly,” he said. “While most centres are now standardising to 9:30am to 5:00pm, some locations will retain their usual schedules — so it’s worth double-checking before you travel.”
“Our website has all the up-to-date information, including location details, waste and recycling tips, the bin collection calendar, and how to book a Bulky Waste collection.”
Recycling Centres at Pennyburn, Strathfoyle, Strahan’s Road, and Spamount will continue operating under their existing timetables.
