Kindness of Strangers charity shop in Claudy to close
A Claudy charity shop has taken the decision to close its doors.
Kindness of Strangers shop on the Main Street area of the village announced “with a heavy heart” that the shop will close.
The shop which has been open in the County Derry village for several years thanked customers.
“We took on the premises a few years ago, during which time we met the most amazing kind strangers, customers and supporters in the world,” read a social media post.
“We have loved every minute of it. THANK YOU for having us.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Claudy for welcoming us, for supporting us and for trusting in us. We very much appreciate everything. From us to all of you - THANK YOU for being amazing and taking the issue of kinship care to your hearts.”
The charity explained that lack of staff is the reason behind the closure.
They continued: “Over the past 6-9 months our shop has been closed more times than it has been open.
“We have tried recruiting staff and volunteers, but we haven't had much luck.
“What we don't want to do is hold onto a shop (and all the costs associated with it) when we aren't able to get it open.”
Kindness of Strangers explained over the next few weeks they will clear out the shop and return it to the landlord.
Services for children engaged in the PEACEPLUS Project will continue as normal in the Diamond Centre and a Christmas Party for local children is already booked.
