Derry Magistrate's Court
A man who admitted sending 'unacceptable' messages to another man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court.
Ryan Mallett (33) of Berryburn Park in Derry admitted abusing the communications network on June 17 this year.
The court heard that the injured party reported that he had received numerous messages over Facebook of a threatening nature.
One message said that if he left his street he was 'a dead man'.
When interviewed Mallett made admissions to sending the messages.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said there was a history in the case and police were currently investigating another party.
He said that the defendant would claim he was 'standing up for himself'.
District Judge Ted Magill said the messages were 'very specific and detailed' and said he could send Mallett straight to prison.

He told the defendant that if there issues it was for the police to investigate.
Mallett was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for three years.
