Copies of the commemorative book will be available to purchase on the evening.
The Parish of Duneane is set to host a very special evening to celebrate the centenary of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Moneyglass — a landmark Irish national monument dedicated to Our Lady and a place of deep devotion for generations.
Built in 1925, the Church and its Grotto have stood as a symbol of faith and community for 100 years. Earlier this year, the parish launched a commemorative centenary book —a beautifully produced volume that brings together the parish's history, photographs, and personal stories. The book — the result of six years of research and work by local volunteers — captures the life of the church and grotto from their opening right through to the present day.
To mark the centenary year further, the parish invites everyone to “An Evening of Celebration and Personal Reflection” on Monday, October 27 at 7.30pm at Toome House, Main Street, Toome. The event is free to attend, and everyone is very welcome.
The evening will include music, refreshments, and reflections on the making of the commemorative book. The main highlight will be a personal reflection by The Very Reverend Bishop Donal McKeown, Bishop of the Diocese of Derry. His family’s long-standing connections to the church, dating back to its very foundation, make his presence especially meaningful.
Speaking ahead of the event, Sharon Dobbin, Chairperson of the Centenary Committee, stated: "We are genuinely proud of our church at Moneyglass. The fact that the Church and Grotto together are recognised as a national monument is an excellent source of pride throughout the Parish of Duneane. We look forward to this special evening of celebration and are very grateful that Bishop Donal can attend, making it a truly momentous occasion."
Copies of the commemorative book, priced at £30, will be available to purchase on the evening. The book can also be obtained through the Parish Office at Moneyglass Church or at the Lockkeeper’s Cottage, Toome village.
This promises to be a memorable evening of reflection, celebration, and community spirit — honouring a century of faith and devotion at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
