Derry's Amy Doherty, the reigning Miss Derry/Londonderry, is set to compete in the Miss Great Britain 2025 National Final this Friday, October 17. The event, held at the Athena in Leicester, marks the pageant's 80th anniversary.
29-year-old Amy, crowned Miss Derry/Londonderry earlier this year, is a social media manager and mother of two, and has been a strong advocate for autism awareness, a cause she passionately supports as both her sons, Mason and Noah, have autism.
Her journey to the national final is sponsored by the THINK Network.
Posting on Instagram ahead of this Friday's event, Amy said: “When I stepped into the world of Miss Great Britain back in 2022 I hadn’t the first clue what I was doing. I played the part of someone who I thought they wanted and went through the motions but it honestly took me until last year to fully come into my own and realise that who I am and what I bring to the table is more than enough and I’m accepted for who I am.
“Last year I placed 13th and won the first ever Miss Photogenic in Miss GB’s history. I have poured my heart and soul into this system and it came along at a time when I needed it most. I’m a Miss GB girl through and through.
“This year I know I’m ready and I believe that some dreams just take a little longer than others so I’m just going to put the rest in God’s hands, know that whatever is meant to be will be and won’t pass you by.

“Walking in the historic 80th anniversary is something I don’t take for granted but getting to do it with some of the most inspirational, loveliest women, including my fellow Team NI girls is something else. Not only that but I get to be roomies with my bestie Nicole Johnston and create memories that we’ll carry with us for the rest of our lives so that’s already a win.”
Having expressed pride in representing Derry, Amy paid tribute to her family, friends and sponsor for their unwavering support as they prepare to travel to Leicester to cheer her on.
She continued: “A special shoutout has to go to my mum who is not only my best friend but biggest cheerleader. From I first set out on this crazy journey she’s been there behind the scenes helping in any way possible and for that I’ll never be able to thank her enough. She’s the real queen and my absolute role model.
“Thank you to my incredible Dad, my brothers and of course my two beautiful boys for coming along and entering pageant land. There’s never been any hesitation in showing up and getting involved in all the sequins and for that I’m so grateful.”
