Masked gunmen threaten mother of Derry man currently on High Court bail

Eoin Dorney (39) of Swilly Gardens in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail by not being at his approved address on November 4 and breaching his curfew

Suspended sentence for Donegal man at Derry Magistrate's Court

Derry Court

Derry Magistrate's Court heard today that armed and masked men had called at the address of a man who was recently released on bail by the High Court and pointed a gun at his terminally ill mother.

Eoin Dorney (39) of Swilly Gardens in Derry appeared charged with breaching his bail by not being at his approved address on November 4 and breaching his curfew.

The accused is currently on bail on two sets of charges one involving driving offences and the other aggravated burglary and was released on bail by the High Court on October 29.

A police officer told the court that on November 4 masked an armed men appeared at another address linked to Dorney.

When a woman saw them she shouted at them and one of them was said to have pointed what is believed to a firearm at her.

Shortly afterwards masked and armed men appeared at the Swilly Gardens address and when Dorney's mother opened the door they pointed a gun at her and told her Dorney had to get out.

A police officer said that when police responded to the incident the defendant's grandmother told them that Dorney had not been staying there as he should have been and was in breach of his bail conditions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that his client had 'fled' after the masked men had appeared at his address and was afraid to return.

He said his client had 'a valid reason' for not being at that address.

The police officer in the case said it appeared Dorney had not been at the address prior to the masked men calling and objected to bail.

Mr MacDermott said that a tag could be fitted which would ensure Dorney was where he should be.

Bail was refused and the other bails revoked Dorney was remanded in custody to appear again on December 4.
