A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today for offences against his mother.
Kane Boyd (24) of no fixed abode admitted assaulting his mother, criminal damage, threatening to commit criminal damage and domestic abuse that occurred on September 10 2025.
The court heard that police were called by the defendant's mother who was fearful her son was going to 'wreck the house'.
She said she had been on holiday and had had to turn off her phone due to calls from Kane and added she had been afraid to go home.
On September 10 she said Kane had become aggressive towards her and when she asked him to leave the house he told her 'you can't tell me to leave'.
As he became more aggressive he told his mother 'I will show you a psychopath'.
District Judge Ted Magill said that normally he would request a pre-sentence report but if he did it would mean this defendant would spend at least another four weeks in custody.
He sentenced him to three months in prison suspended for two years and imposed a Restraining Order for a period of two years.
