County Derry rally driver Josh McErlean and his co-driver Eoin Treacy suffered a heavy crash on the second day of the FORUM8 Rally Japan.

The incident occurred during Friday's action, when the Kilrea man's M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 left the road 8.9km into the test.

Both McErlean and his co-driver, Eoin Treacy, were taken to hospital but given medical clearance, though both sustained heavy bruising.

The impact caused damage to the front and rear of their Ford Puma that forced the pair into early retirement.
