Derry City FC has confirmed today that Robbie Benson, Hayden Cann, and Shane Ferguson will leave the club at the end of their current contracts. The club wishes to thank the players for their service and commitment during the 2025 season.
The trio of players all joined the club during the 2025 campaign, with each making a significant contribution during their time at the Brandywell.
Midfielder Robbie Benson made 28 appearances, defender Hayden Cann featured 26 times, and left-sided player Shane Ferguson made 14 appearances for the club.
In a statement, Manager Tiernan Lynch expressed his gratitude for their efforts.
"Comings and goings are part of football and these lads were part of as honest and hardworking a dressing room as you could wish for," said Lynch. "They gave everything in training and were ready to go when they were needed to step up. I want to thank them sincerely for their efforts and wish them every success going forward".
Last year’s captain Mark Connolly and striker Danny Mullen were the first players to be told they weren’t in the manager’s plans for 2026 earlier this week.
Former Drogheda playmaker Darragh Markey is expected to arrive on Foyleside in the coming days while Galway defender Rob Slevin is also understood to be on his way to the maiden city.
