Derry Magistrate's Court
A woman has been given a one month prison sentence that she has already served at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Faith L'Anson (24) of Dacre Terrace in Derry admitted one charge of possessing an offensive weapon namely a knife on July 28 this year.
The court heard that police were told by security at Claremont House of disturbance involving a female and a male.
Police attended and went to a flat and found the defendant and three men and L'Anson was said to have been 'distressed and highly intoxicated'.
Police removed her from the building and carried out a search and found a kitchen knife in her waist band.
The defendant told police she 'forgot that it was there'.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the defendant had been assaulted and for 'some utterly ridiculous reason' had grabbed this knife.
He said she had been in custody since July.
L'Anson was sentenced to one month in prison.
