Officers from Derry’s District Support Team (DST) have made two arrests in relation to drugs and traffic offences, with suspected drugs seized.
Chief Inspector Pearce said: "At approximately 3.20pm on Saturday, 15th November a stop and search of a vehicle in the Ringfort Road area saw a 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug and being concerned in the supply of a Class B controlled drug. He was further arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle without insurance and without a licence.
"During the vehicle search, officers seized two mobile phones and a quantity of suspected cannabis, with another mobile phone and suspected Class B edibles seized in a follow-up search of his house. The vehicle was also seized.
"The man was later released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
"Meanwhile, at around 8.40pm on Saturday, officers on mobile patrol became concerned about the standard of driving of a grey Range Rover which had turned onto Irish Street. They attempted to stop the vehicle as it entered Dungiven Road, however, after slowing at the traffic lights, the vehicle drove on, before pulling over on the Glendermott Road.
"After speaking with the driver, who smelt strongly of cannabis, a vehicle search uncovered a half-smoked joint. A positive preliminary drug test conducted at the scene by our District Support Team officers subsequently led to the 57-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug and driving when unfit through drink or drugs. He was later released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
"These arrests are a great example of proactive policing in the community and demonstrate our commitment to keeping our roads and communities safe and ensuring that everyone using our roads does so responsibly. Please drive safely."
