Foyle Network Foundation launches Christmas Appeal.
Derry's Foyle Network Foundation (formerly Foylebank) has launched its 2025 Christmas Appeal.
The Foundation is calling for "donations to help support families across this city who are struggling this winter".
Patricia O’Donnell, Fundraiser at Foyle Network Foundation said:"With rising living costs and winter bills putting extra pressure on households, more people than ever will need support over the festive season.
"Last year, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, schools and community groups, Foyle Foodbank provided hampers to over 1,000 households, each filled with food, gifts, and essential items," she added.
“Every year, we see more families coming to us who are worried about how they’ll feed their children or afford basics. Christmas should be a time of joy for children, not stress and hardship for parents. That’s why our appeal is so important. Every single donation helps makes Christmas a little better for families right across our city.
"The generosity of the people is incredible. Local businesses, schools and individuals really pull together to support families in need. Last year, that kindness meant over 1,000 households received hampers, gifts, and essentials.
"We’re asking the community to help again this year. Whether it’s donating items, holding a collection, or helping us spread the word, it all makes a difference. It’s amazing to see what we can achieve when we come together as a city," said Ms O'Donnell.
One family who received support shared their experience: “Last Christmas, I didn’t know how we’d cope. Poor health meant no income, and with four kids, the pressure was overwhelming. But Foyle Foodbank stepped in - with food, support, and Christmas gifts. They gave us hope when we needed it most. It made Christmas feel like Christmas again, even in a difficult year.”
Particia O'Donnell said the community could help by: holding a collection using the Foodbank’s Christmas List of most-needed items.
"They can also drop off donations to the foodbank if that is posssible or email info@foyle.foodbank.org.uk and the team will arrange a collection," she added.
