Ciara McElhinney, the visionary founder of the specialist mental health service Child Therapy NI, has led her business to a significant victory, securing the highly coveted 'Best Business in the North West 2025' title at the prestigious Local Women Business Awards.

The gala ceremony, which celebrates the achievements of businesses across Northern Ireland and Donegal, took place at the Europa Hotel in Belfast last night.

The award was presented to the Child Therapy NI founder by sponsor Shauna McLean from Roe Valley Resort. The win highlights the vital contribution the Derry-based practice makes to the mental health and well-being of children and families across the North West regioni  including Donegal.

Ciara McElhinney, a qualified and acredited Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with over 16 years of experience, expressed her delight at the recognition.

“I am absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured that Child Therapy NI has been named Best Business in the North West,” said Ms. McElhinney. “This award is a powerful testament to the hard work of our team and the increasing need for accessible, professional mental health support for young people.”

She extended her sincere gratitude to the local community who voted for the business.

“A massive thank you must go to our wonderful sponsor, Shauna McLean from Roe Valley Resort, and to the Local Woman awards. But most of all, a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted. Your support fuels our mission every day.”
Ciara's dedication to Children's Resilience is so obvious.

Child Therapy NI is known for its specialised, integrative approach, which often incorporates creative therapies like play and sand therapy to help children process trauma, anxiety, and emotional difficulties. She also works with adults to remove Trauma, fears and phobias online, in on Session.

Miss McElhinney concluded with a focus on the future: “Here’s to the mental health of all children and adults. We will continue to work tirelessly to build resilience, self-esteem, and emotional capacity for all our clients across the North West and beyond.”

The victory at the Local Women Business Awards solidifies Child Therapy NI’s position as a regional leader in Specialist Psychological Services for Children and families.
