Staff and volunteers from community groups in the Triax area, alongside young people from St. Joseph's Boys School, came together in the Bogside to launch this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The 2025 campaign focuses on ‘Ending Digital Violence Against Women and Girls’ and highlighting the urgent need to address online harassment and abuse.
Niamh McGuinness, Advocacy Worker at Dove House, said: “This campaign is about all of us standing together as a community. Gender-based violence, including online abuse, affects us all, and it’s vital that we send a clear, united message: it is never acceptable, and no one should have to face it alone.
“Stark statistics that women are 27 times more likely to experience harassment online is shocking, but it also reminds us that awareness and action are crucial.
“We want to make sure anyone experiencing abuse knows they do not have to suffer in silence. Speaking out, seeking support, and knowing that help is available can make all the difference.
“Dove House is here to provide guidance, advocacy, and support for anyone affected. Together, we can help people access the right support and work to create safer, stronger communities for everyone.”
Tuesday’s launch kicks off a campaign across the neighbourhood over the next 16 days which aims to raising awareness of gender-based violence.
