Police in Derry are appealing for witnesses to an attempted robbery at fast food premises on William Street in the city on Tuesday night, November 25.

Shortly before 8.00pm, a masked man entered the premises and walked up to the counter, brandishing a knife, demanding money from the till. A staff member confronted the suspect, who then dropped the knife – which has been recovered by police - and ran away.

The suspect is described as being approximately six-foot tall and of slim build and wore a black coat. It's reported when he left the premises he and another male ran away, in the direction of Chamberlain Street.

Inspector Gahan said: "While none of the staff were physically injured, this was undoubtedly a terrifying ordeal for them to experience.

"As we continue with our enquiries, we're appealing to anyone who was in the area, between 7.55pm and 8.00pm, and noticed anything suspicious, or saw two males running away from William Street, to report it to police.

"We'd also be keen to hear from any motorists in the area at the time who may have relevant dash cam footage that could assist our investigation."

The number to call with information is 101, quoting 1388 25/11/25. You can also submit a report online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ or, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org/
