Derry Magistrate's Court
A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with a number of driving offences.
Ruarai Canning (34) of Maureen Avenue in Derry was charged with, on December 5, driving while disqualified, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and driving with no insurance.
In September this year, he had a number of offences, including driving offences, dealt with in Derry Crown Court and was given multiple suspended sentences.
Defence Barrister Seamus Lannon said that Canning had gone through a period of 'considerable hardship' and poor mental health but a report had shown a 'significant' change in his behavior.
He added that Canning had been in the car in order to help his aunt learn to use the navigation system and that police are awaiting CCTV footage of the alleged movement of the car.
Police opposed bail as he has an 'extensive' record that includes 40 driving offences.
Bail was refused and he will appear again on December 31.
