Derry Magistrate's Court
A woman who told police her sister was being held prisoner and was 'being waterboarded' at an address has been dealt with at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Caoimhe Moran (39) of Foyle Road in Derry admitted possessing an offensive weapon in a public place namely a hammer and criminal damage that occurred on March 26 this year.
The court heard that police received a report that the defendant was outside an address with a hammer banging on doors and windows.
Police arrived and found the defendant who was heavily intoxicated outside the property.
She told police her sister was being held prisoner at the address and she believed she was being waterboarded by the injured party.
Moran was arrested and told police she had heard noises from the address.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that his client was clearly under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs.
He said the defendant had no record but added that her sister had no connection whatsoever to the address in question.
The barrister described Moran as being 'delusional' but added there had been no incidents since.
Moran was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £200 in compensation.
