A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with disorderly behavior, resisting police and breaching his bail conditions.

Stephen O'Reilly (32) of Monagh Drive in Belfast was in Derry while on bail for charges in Belfast.

On December 16, he was speaking to police in a hotel in Derry while he was intoxicated and agreed to take him to the train station.

Police then ran a check on his name and found that he was on bail with conditions that included that he not consume alcohol.

When they asked him to take a breath test he refused and began to resist to the point of having to be restrained.

He was also shouting and swearing in a public place, leading to the charges of disorderly behavior.

Police opposed bail as they believe he is at clear risk of reoffending or breaching any conditions set by the court.

Defence Barrister Michael Wilson said that O'Reilly had been on bail for two and a half months and pointed out that this was his first new offence in that time.

Bail was granted and he will appear again on January 14.
