Sacred Heart PS Open Day sees special visit from Santa Claus

There was a festive theme to the Annual Open Day at Sacred Heart Primary School on Friday last with staff adorned in Christmas t-shirts, a pleasant welcome for prospective pupils and parents, and a lovely cup of hot tea and seasonal biscuits – even Santa Claus paid a visit!

A lot of hard work, planning, and design of a new prospectus entailed beforehand, but on the day, a warm and caring welcome greeted a great turnout of prospective parents and pupils as they were given a guided tour of what the Waterside school can offer for families looking to join next year.

School Principal, Mrs. Louise Cunning described Friday’s event as a great success, and was very happy to see so many come through the doors, noting that it was wonderful to meet so many new families.

‘Myself and the staff were delighted to be so busy on Friday. We were a bit worried about the turnout on a Friday and with the festive season upon us. The staff had conversations with and gave information to the many parents who attended. We were also able to put parents’ minds at rest regarding a lot of the queries they had including coming from outside the school’s area.

‘Our staff and I were absolutely delighted to see such a fantastic turnout on Friday. With the festive season in full swing, we were not sure what the turnout might be, but the response was incredible. It was wonderful to have so many parents engaging in conversations with our team, asking questions, and learning more about what makes Sacred Heart such a special place.

‘A massive thank you to all the staff for the hard work they put in getting the school ready and the festive feel that they created. I must not forget Santa Claus too for dropping in and making all the children feel at home.’

On a more serious note, Mrs. Cunning said it was important that parents were given all the relevant information they needed to make an important decision in their child’s life and added that anyone who needed more advice or had queries were welcome to contact the school in the coming weeks.

‘We will be here to answer any further queries parents may have and they can contact the school on 02871 345552 or alternatively, email info@sacredheart.derry.ni.sch.uk
