New charity which aims to help families affected by suicide with practical and financial support will benefit from annual Christmas dip at Lisfannon.
A newly established charity which aims to help families who have lost someone to suicide with practical and financial support, is one of three organisations which will benefit from the annual Christmas Dip fundraiser at Lisfannon Beach.
The charity is being formed in memory of Derry man Darren Coyle who died earlier this year.
Speaking to The Derry News, Tomás Carlin, co-organiser of the Christmas Dip, said the event was taking place on Saturday, December 20, 2025 and everyone was very welcome to take part or “support the event in any way”.
“The time of The Dip is tide dependent but we are estimating it will be between 10.00am and 11.00am and all proceeds raised will be split evenly between three charities that support people through difficult times,” added Tómas.
“The charities who will benefit from the Dip are, Cairde Nellie, the Old Library Trust, and a new one being established in memory of my brother, Darren Coyle, who died in June.
“Cairde Nellie helps couples in the North-West with the cost of fertility treatment,” said Tomás, “and the Old Library Trust supports families through the DEEDs project following an Alzheimer’s diagnosis
“After the dip there’ll be tea, coffee and soup and warm refreshments on the beach to help everyone heat up.”
A Crowdfunder online fundraiser has also been set up to support the event: Christmas Dip 2025: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/xmasdip2025.
