Derry judge hits out at court delays

Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court for possession of class A and B drugs.

Ethan McCallion (24) of Ard Grange in Derry admitted two charges that occurred on December 12 last year.

The court heard that police were called by the Ambulance Service who reported that they had received a call relating to a man with facial injuries.

Police attended and in the course of their inquiries they had occasion to engage with McCallion.

He was searched and quantities of class A and B drugs were found on him.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that this was the first drug offence on her client's record.

The court heard that the defendant had not co-operated with Probation for a pre-sentence report.

District Judge Conor Heaney said that the defendant had been given a chance but had not availed of that opportunity.

He fined him a total of £300.
