Man returned to Derry Crown Court on domestic abuse and non-fatal strangulation charges

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on a series of domestic abuse and other offences.

Thomas Joseph Kelly (38) off no fixed abode appeared at a Preliminary Enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court today. 

He was charged with behaviour deemed domestic abuse on dates between October 20 2024 and November 23 2024.

He was also charged with three assaults on a female and a charge of non-fatal strangulation on October 20.

Kelly was also charged with dangerous driving and driving while disqualified on November 23 2024.

It was accepted there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions. 

Kelly said he did not want to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage. 

He was returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on January 28 and remanded in continuing custody.
