A republican group has claimed they have left two 'viable' devices in the Dungiven area.
The North Derry Republican Group made the claim during a phone call to the County Derry Post newspaper last night (Tuesday).
The spokesperson, who used a codeword, stated that two 'viable' devices have been left in the Ballyquin Road area of the town - one in a yard and another at a house.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a third-party report that a device was alleged to have been left in the Ballyquin Road area of Dungiven on Tuesday, 23rd December.
“The safety of the community is of paramount importance and as such, searches and wider enquiries are ongoing. Where possible, please avoid the area. If you come across anything which looks suspicious, do not touch it - and contact police immediately by calling 999.
"We would also ask that anyone with information on the report received contact us on 101 or via https://www.psni.police.uk/report/incident, quoting reference 1123 of 23/12/25."Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
