Elagh Tree Surgery Team shredding used Christmas trees in the Foyle Hospice grounds
Foyle Hospice has launched its Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme, giving households across the North West a simple, environmentally friendly way to support local hospice care by having their real Christmas tree collected from their front door and shredded for use in the Hospice gardens throughout the year.
With registration closing on Saturday, January 3, the charity is encouraging anyone who would like to take part to register as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for Foyle Hospice said: “This scheme is a practical way for people to support their local hospice while also doing something positive for the environment.
"We are sincerely grateful to Elagh Tree Surgery for giving their time, equipment and expertise to support the collections, and to Triax Neighbourhood Management Team for coming on board to help make the scheme possible.
“The shredded trees are reused in our gardens throughout the year, helping us maintain a calm, welcoming space for patients and families to spend time together. Our gardens and grounds are an important part of the hospice experience, offering fresh air, quiet moments, and a gentle change of scene when it’s needed most.
"They are a much-loved feature of Foyle Hospice, providing a peaceful place for connection, reflection, and comfort for families and patients alike."
The scheme offers an easy, hassle-free option for households, while supporting specialist palliative care services for people living with life-limiting illness and their families.
Registered trees will be collected between Monday, January 5 and Friday, January 9, with a suggested donation of £10.
