Nicolás Maduro, President of Venezuela and US President Donald Trump.
People Before Profit has condemned what it described as 'US imperialist attack on Venezuela'.
Derry City and Strabane District councillor Shaun Harkin (PBP) said: "We condemn the unprovoked US military attack on Venezuela and the claimed kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro.
"The Irish Government and Stormont Executive must immediately condemn the US attack, demand the release of President Maduro and call for an immediate halt to US aggression," he added.
"This is a blatant act of terrorism by Trump, the recent recipient of a "FIFA Peace Prize - Football Unites the World".
"Many years ago the great Martin King Jr described the US government as "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world". Nothing has changed. The US is clearly acting as a terrorist state.
"Venezuela has the world’s largest proven oil reserves and that is the central reason for this latest US attack.
"The US military use of both Aldergrove and Shannon airports for missions is an ongoing scandal. While the US engages in imperialist intervention parties here in Ireland should cut diplomatic ties. People Before Profit supports the resistance of the people of Venezuela and calls for mobilisations in Ireland and across the world to oppose this US imperialist intervention. We say, Hands off Venezuela."
