Donegal and Derry to share McKenna Cup points following Sunday's cancellation

Donegal and Derry didn't go ahead in Letterkenny on Sunday

Derry's Dr. McKenna Cup clash with Donegal won’t be refixed with both counties instead set to share the points.

Sunday’s scheduled clash in O’Donnell Park Letterkenny, fell foul of the recent cold snap as snowfall and freezing conditions engulfed the north west over the weekend.

And while officials deemed the pitch playable early Sunday morning, the decision not to go ahead was based on safety and road travel conditions.

A short statement on the Donegal GAA social media accounts read: “Following the postponement of today's Bank of Ireland Dr McKenna Cup game between Donegal and Derry, due to no forecast improvement over the next 24 hours, it is not practical to refix the game.

“Therefore, both counties will be awarded a point each in the Section C league table. Tickets and stream purchases of the postponed fixture will be refunded”.
