SDLP East Derry MLA Cara Hunter has welcomed approval for a new 157 unit housing development in Coleraine.
The development will be located at the site of the former St Joseph’s High School.
East Derry MLA Ms Hunter said: “Approval from council for this new development is great news for an area that is crying out for more housing. We have a real lack of social and affordable housing in Coleraine and across the North Coast generally, waiting lists are getting longer, and this will be a welcome boost for this area, building on the existing community here.
“I welcome that this project will maintain green spaces in this area which are so important, particularly for young families and that efforts will be made to ensure minimum disruption for residents already living here.
“Increased social and affordable housing provision remains a top priority for the SDLP and we are working hard in Opposition at Stormont to hold the Executive to account for their failures in this area. While we recognise there is much more work to be done this project is an important step forward and will make a difference for families in Coleraine looking for a home.”
