UPDATE: Council services - 12.30pm, Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Derry City and Strabane District Council has provided an update in relation to the impact the current snow and ice weather conditions is having on its services and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.
Household Bin Collections
In relation to bin collection services, while we had crews out and about today, Tuesday, there were some areas that were not accessible due to challenging driving conditions. We are advising the public to please leave their bins out and we will endeavour to revisit these areas over the coming days to collect bins that were missed when it is safe to do so. We are hopeful that all areas will be accessible by the end of the week and have arrangements in place for additional refuse services at the weekend.
Cemeteries
Unfortunately, cemeteries will remain closed today and tomorrow morning. There is a weather warning in place until 11am tomorrow morning. Burials will continue to be prioritised. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Recycling Centres
Some recycling centres experienced delayed opening this morning due to weather conditions however we are pleased to advise that all are open and operational, with the exception of Spamont and Park that remain closed.
Community Centres
Some community centres were closed today Tuesday due to the weather. Users are advised to contact their local centre directly for the latest information.
