The official transition of the High Sheriff for the City and County Borough of Londonderry took place this week, marking a new chapter of civic service and tradition for 2026.

In a formal ceremony held at the Guildhall, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, was joined by the Lord Lieutenant, Mr. Ian Crowe, to witness the transfer of the historic Chain of Office.

The outgoing High Sheriff, Mr. Brian Dougherty, officially handed over the Chain of Office to the incoming High Sheriff, Mrs. Joan Doherty, who will serve in the prestigious role for the 2026 term.
