Derry man receives suspended sentence following shopping centre altercation

A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with disorderly behavior.

Declan Grimes (35) of Campion Court in Derry was arrested after a man was reported to be acting aggressively towards staff in Quayside Shopping Centre.

Police found Grimes in the Strand Road and said that he appeared to be under the influence of something, although he tested negative for any substances.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that Grimes had 'made a nuisance of himself', telling the court that he had a 'terrible record' but had only one offence in the last six years.

He was sentenced to three months in custody, suspended for eighteen months.
