Derry Court
A man who the court heard had 'actively avoiding police' since December 14 has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with breaching his bail and dangerous driving after crashing into a police vehicle.
Ryan Deery (31) of no fixed abode was charged with dangerous driving on January 14, no insurance on the same date and fraudulent use of a vehicle registration mark.
He also faced three breaches of bail charge and a police officer said that Deery's bail address had been withdrawn on December 14 and he had been avoiding police since then.
The officer said that Deery had been located on the cityside and he was prohibited from entering there.
The court heard that at 9.50pm police observed a vehicle they believed was being used by Deery and they were aware he was avoiding police.
The vehicle was parked and police parked behind it to prevent it leaving.
An officer walked round the vehicle and as he did so Deery attempted to move off reversing into the police vehicle.
An officer took the keys and Deery was arrested and made a mostly no comment interview.
However, he did say he had not been aware of the police vehicle parked behind him until he heard the 'crunch' when he reversed into it.
Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending and the fact that there was a risk of him further breaching bail as he had been found in the Creggan area.
Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said that his client accepted he had breached his bail after the address had been withdrawn.

He said this had occurred because of police checks to ensure the defendant was at his address were disrupting the local area.
The solicitor said that this was 'a very, very difficult application.'
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that Deery had clearly breached his bail and refused him bail.
Deery was remanded in custody to appear again on February 11.
