Derry man apologises for smashing neighbour's windows during "ongoing issues"

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with criminal damage after breaking a neighbour's windows.

James Harkin (56) of Lettershendony Avenue in Drumahoe was charged following a 999 call to police on January 14.

Upon their arrival, Harkin told police 'I done it. I smashed the windows'.

The court heard that he had been having issues and Harkin smashed the windows in the early hours of the morning.

Harkin made full admissions when questioned and apologised for his actions.

Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Harkin had pleaded guilty.

He added that 'drink had been taken' and that there were 'ongoing issues' between the neighbours.

Harkin was sentenced to three months in custody, suspended for two years and ordered to pay a £500 compensation order.
