Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, spent time with members of Eglinton Men’s Shed during a recent visit, hearing all about the valuable work they do.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council has praised the important work being carried out by Men’s Sheds across the region following a recent visit to Eglinton Men’s Shed.
As part of his commitment to highlighting grassroots community organisations during his year in office, Mayor Cllr Ruairí McHugh visited the Eglinton-based group in December.
During the visit, he met with members and saw first-hand the strong sense of community and support fostered within the Shed.
The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the valuable work taking place and to hear directly from members about the positive impact the Shed has had on their lives.
A wide range of activities are available, including woodwork, metalwork, picture framing and gardening, alongside a walking group, puzzles and jigsaws, a library, and the occasional competitive game of pool. Members are also involved in growing local produce through the polytunnel and allotment, and the Shed actively supports other local community groups.
Mayor McHugh praised the dedication of those involved, saying: “This group offers a safe and inclusive space where people can connect, share experiences and feel valued. It plays an important role in supporting wellbeing and building community.”
