Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with non-fatal strangulation.

Karl Hargan (36) of Bloomfield Park in Derry was charged with one count of non-fatal strangulation that was said to have occurred on February 24.

A police officer connected the accused to the charge and said there was 'an agreed way forward'.

Defence solicitor Jack Quigley said that his client had no criminal record but 'unfortunately' had no suitable address.

He asked the court to release Hargan on bail to an address approved by the PSNI.

This was agreed and Hargan was granted bail to an address pre-approved by the PSNI and on condition he has no contact with the alleged injured party in the case.

Hargan will appear again on March 5.
