A woman has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates' Court today for a disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital.
Adiena McGovern (33) with an address at Crossowen Gardens, Clogher in Tyrone admitted one charge of disorderly behaviour in Altnagelvin Hospital on December 4 last year.
The court was told police were called to A&E in the hospital to a report of a disruptive female.
When they arrived they were directed to the ambulance corridor and their attention was drawn to McGovern who was lying under a blanket on a trolley.
She was shouting at anyone who came near her and staff said the trolley was required.
Police approached her and she became verbally abusive and was warned 'multiple times' about her behaviour and reminded that she was in a hospital .
McGovern then 'refused to move and refused to stop shouting' and was subsequently arrested.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said his client had gone to the hospital for a legitimate reason but added that hospital staff should not have to deal with this sort of behaviour.
He said there were no aggravating factors such as sectarian or racial abuse and added he felt it was at the 'lower end' of the scale.
McGovern was given a three month sentence suspended for 12 months.
