Possibility of setting up scouts group in Dungiven being explored.
The possibility of forming a new Scout group in the Dungiven area is currently being explored.
Scouting Ireland wants to gauge local interest in the idea and believe a new group could 'bring a huge boost to community life' in the town.
The Scouts cater for a variety of age groups from aged six right up to adult volunteers.
Scouting offers memories, outdoor adventure, life skills and a safe, positive environment for young people. It also encourages teamwork, confidence and leadership skills.
Speaking about the potential for a group in Dungiven, Collwyn Brunton, from Scouting Ireland, said: “Scouting offers young people so much – life skills, outdoor adventure, teamwork, leadership development, independence, confidence, friendships, fun, and memories that last a lifetime.
“A local Scout group could bring a huge boost to community life in Dungiven, giving young people positive opportunities right on their doorstep.“At this stage, we are simply trying to see if there is enough interest from families and, importantly, from enthusiastic adults who would like to get involved as volunteer leaders. No previous experience is needed, and full training and support is provided by Scouting Ireland.
“If anyone would like to see the kind of activities and adventures a local Scout group can offer, they can check out the social media pages of 33rd Derry Ballinascreen Scouts on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube to see what they get up to.
