The Friends of The Derry Walls have announced that acclaimed historian and military author Darren Graham will headline their March public lecture, offering a major reappraisal of the 1689 Fermanagh campaign.
The event, titled “Enniskillen & the Fermanagh Campaign, 1689 – A reappraisal,” will take place on Tuesday, 10 March at 7:30pm at the Ulster University Magee campus.
Mr Graham, whose previous publications include The Irish Brigade, 1670–1745 and Lord Mountcashel, will present new evidence from several years of academic and field-based research. The lecture promises to move beyond traditional folklore, utilizing recent archaeological findings and drone survey data to examine the Enniskilleners’ war against the Jacobite Army and its strategic connection to the Siege of Derry.
“Darren’s work highlights the critical importance of the 1689 campaign in Fermanagh, setting it in a wider context that is often unexamined or controversial,” a spokesperson for the Friends of the Derry Walls said.
“This is a unique opportunity to see how forgotten events and legends, such as those surrounding Crom Castle, sit alongside the well-known lore of Derry.”

The lecture is kindly supported by Ulster University and the Department for the Economy. While the event is free to attend, the organisers have stressed that booking is essential due to high interest in the new data being presented.
